Bladed Tools and Pocket Knives Used  By Our Appalachian Ancestors

Bladed tools were absolutely essential to the settlement of WNC and the core of the pioneer toolkit. Blades permitted our ancestors to transform these dense mountain forests into habitable dwellings, barns, spring houses, and corn cribs, to clear fields and plant and harvest crops, and to skin wild game for food. This presentation will sharpen our minds and hone our knowledge of those then life essential but now antique and vintage blades. Jason Gregory will be sharing information about axes, scythes, the Cherokee Stone blades and other bladed tools, as well as the indispensable hunting knife and pocket knife. The presentation and discussion will also include the different professions involved with blades over time extending up thru the time when blades and knives became commercially made, concluding with knife collecting today.
