About

JCGS Library

The Jackson County Genealogical Society maintains a research library that is open to the public during JCGS office hours. Materials are for on-site use only. The library is adjacent to the Society Office, located in the Courthouse Wing of the Jackson County Library.

The JCGS library boasts a large collection of county heritage books, including the two-volume Jackson County Heritage Book (published by the Society) as well as books from all surrounding counties and a few from Georgia and Tennessee.

Microfilm census records for North Carolina and a few surrounding areas are available as are some 200 CDs of genealogical information.

In addition, the Society maintains some 2,000 reference volumes that include family histories and “how to” genealogical books along with documents and Civil War books.

The JCGS office and library are staffed by volunteers.
